According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Oklahoma transfer guard Duke Miles has committed to Vanderbilt. In what has been a long journey in the NCAA transfer portal this offseason, Miles has now made his third commitment. The Commodores are hoping it’s his last, welcoming him to the 2025-2026 roster under head coach Mark Byington.

Miles played in 34 games this past year, his lone season with the Sooners. He averaged 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists every time out. Well below the numbers he previously put up at Troy and High Point but the level of competition took a massive step forward in the SEC.

Getting back in the portal for what should be his final season of eligibility brought plenty of intrigue. Miles is a four-star prospect per the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings, coming in at No. 166 overall. Just looking at combo guards, he is the No. 6 player at the position.

Miles committed to Virginia on April 7, five days after his name was officially in the portal. However, the relationship between those two lasted four days. A decommitment came and Miles was back on the open market.

Another SEC came calling, and with a brand new head coach. Texas A&M wanted to keep Miles inside the conference for some experience for Bucky McMillan.

Despite signing a National Letter of Intent with the Aggies, Miles decided to request his release on May 2. Texas A&M granted the release on May 5, once again meaning teams were able to contact Miles and attempt to secure his commitment.

In the end, Vanderbilt was the one to win out. Third time’s the charm for Miles, heading to Nashville for his final season of college basketball.

More on Vanderbilt heading into second season of Mark Byington

For the first time since 2017, Vanderbilt was dancing in the NCAA Tournament. Byington took over a program desperately looking to make a splash inside the SEC. The job was certainly accomplished, even as the league was as competitive as it’s ever been.

Byington is now looking to repeat the success, if not go even further. Earning a 10-seed turned out to be a tough draw, losing to St. Mary’s in the first round. Vanderbilt now has another drought to break, looking to win in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012. A tough road ahead but a guy like Miles should help the cause.
