Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis following Lane Kiffin to LSU
Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. is joining Lane Kiffin at LSU, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Weis was seen getting on a plane as Rebels fans gathered around booing him.
Prior to this, Ole Miss had been working to retain Weis on staff. It’s yet another big blow to the Rebels to end this 2025 season.
Weis is the son of former Notre Dame and Kansas head coach Charlie Weis. He joined Ole Miss in 2022 after previous stops as offensive coordinator for South Florida and Florida Atlantic, where he also worked under Kiffin from 2018-19.
Ole Miss has ranked among the top 30 teams in the country in scoring offense every year that Weis has been on staff. This season, the Rebels rank No. 11 in points per game (37.3) and No. 3 in yards per game (498.1).
The decision from Weis comes after Nakos reported earlier Sunday that Kiffin intended to leave Oxford and take the LSU job. Neither coach will be allowed to finish out the season with the Rebels, who currently rank No. 6 in the country, when they compete in the College Football Playoff.

Although Weis will follow Kiffin to Baton Rouge, defensive coordinator Pete Golding worked out a deal to stay in Oxford and take over for Kiffin in a permanent role. He will attempt to lead them to a national championship this season and finish off what Kiffin started.
Lane Kiffin releases statement after taking LSU job
Shortly after the news broke Sunday, Kiffin addressed his move in a statement. The coach said he had hoped to finish out the year as the Rebels coach, but Ole Miss did not want him to.
“After a lot of prayer and time spent with family, I made the difficult decision to accept the head coaching position at LSU,” Kiffin said in a statement. “I was hoping to complete a historic six season run with this year’s team by leading Ole Miss through the playoffs, capitalizing on the team’s incredible success and their commitment to finish strong, and investing everything into a playoff run with guardrails in place to protect the program in any areas of concern.
“My request to do so was denied by Keith Carter despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so they could better maintain their high level of performance. Unfortunately, that means Friday’s Egg Bowl was my last game coaching the Rebels.”
