Emotions tend to run high for teams coached by Dan Lanning. Not many in college football are better at getting their guys ready for games than Lanning, especially when plenty is on the line. And there might not be a bigger showdown for Oregon this season than facing Penn State on the road in a White Out.

So, when the Ducks escaped with a double overtime win, those players decided to express emotions. Not with just each other, either. The entire Oregon defense sprinted across the field to the Penn State student section for some polite back and forth.

A few items did rain down from the stand but based on the video from Yahoo‘s Ross Dellenger, nothing harmful. Oregon players let the students hear it after another disappointing loss for them under head coach James Franklin. Dellenger describes it perfectly in his tweet — “Madness.”

Oregon entered the Big Ten and as a whole, many wondered how the West Coast schools would blend into the conference. Well, enemies might be in the making due to these kinds of moments. The Ducks remain undefeated against Big Ten teams during the regular season. Not many opposing coaches want to see Lanning on the other sideline.

Who knows, maybe this is the first of two matchups between Oregon and Penn State. We saw them face off in Indianapolis last season. Of course, the College Football Playoff brings all kinds of rematch possibilities due to the 12-team format. Nittany Lion fans are certainly hoping this is not the last (literal) face-to-face meeting.

More on Oregon defense, massive win over Penn State

For the longest time, Oregon’s defense was dominating the game. Neither team could get anything going, really, as the score remained deadlocked at three. But seemingly out of nowhere, the points began to pour onto the scoreboard.

A Jamari Johnson touchdown catch from Dante Moore in double overtime meant Oregon just needed a stop to win. On the first play of the Penn State drive, Drew Allar threw a backbreaking interception to Dillon Thieneman. The safety was a big-time get for the Ducks out of the NCAA transfer portal this offseason.

Oregon now improves to 5-0 on the year with a bye week coming. Next up is another potential top-10 matchup against the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers. For now, Lanning and the entire Ducks defense will celebrate going into Happy Valley, only to fly out winners.
