Record number of walk-off wins recorded on first day of NCAA Tournament

NCAA Baseball treated fans well on Friday. The action-packed opening day of the NCAA Tournament included six walk-off wins, the most since the tournament expanded in 1999. Clemson, UNC, UC Irvine, Mississippi State, LSU & South Carolina each won their respective games with a walk-off hit.
In 2014 and 2001, the NCAA Tournament saw five walk-offs in one day but never six. Even wilder, the day is not over. Arizona and Grand Canyon are closing the chaotic day with a heated battle in the Tallahassee Regional.
The opening, double-elimination rounds began at noon today and will run throughout the start of next week. When the dust settles, 16 teams will remain to advance to the super regionals and compete for berths to play in the Men’s College World Series.
