Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin is the hottest name in college coaching searches right now, with him currently being a candidate for several top jobs all across America. However, Robert Griffin III is now considering him, whether seriously or not, for the next level.

The New York Giants just fired Brian Daboll, amidst a record this season of 2-8 and 20-40-1 in his tenure over the past three and a half years since 2022, on Monday morning. With that, RGIII offered up Kiffin as a candidate to make a return to the NFL.

“The New York Giants should hire Lane Kiffin,” Griffin tweeted out following Daboll’s firing.

There’s no denying the interest around Kiffin right now as a coaching hire, regardless of level. That’s with him currently being 53-19 (.736) overall during his tenure at Ole Miss, with the Rebels being 9-1 (.900) right now, and in contention to be in the SEC Championship and for a spot in the College Football Playoff, as he should have his fourth season of ten-plus wins out of six since his arrival in The ‘Sip in 2020. It also brings his overall record as a college coach to 115-53 (.685) over stops at Tennessee, USC, FAU, and now Ole Miss.

Beyond his collegiate coordinating work under Pete Carroll at Southern Cal as well as Nick Saban at Alabama, Kiffin was formerly a head coach in the NFL for just over a season with the Oakland Raiders in 2007 and then four games before his firing in 2008. He went 5-15 (.250) in that very short tenure with the Raiders, and he has been in the NCAA ever since.

As far as a possible return for Kiffin to the NFL, the New York Giants would make among the most sense if for no other reason than QB Jaxson Dart. Dart spent three seasons playing for Kiffin at Ole Miss, posting 65.7% completion for 272.2 passing yards per game with 72 touchdowns, while also rushing for a dozen more scores as well, and 22 interceptions to lead the Rebels to a record of 29-10 (.744) behind among the top offenses in the FBS. He was then the No. 25 overall pick as a first-rounder in the 2025 NFL Draft last spring by the Giants, with Dart taking over as their starter with numbers of 62.7% completion for 157.4 passing yards per game with 10 touchdowns, while rushing for seven more scores too, and three picks over nine appearances, seven of those now being starts, for New York.

Kiffin simply can’t take all of these jobs, with him also just as likely maybe to remain in Oxford. But, as far as potentially returning to the pros, Griffin III could be on to something, at least considering some of the connections, with him for the New York Giants.
