SEC Championship injury updates: Alabama vs. Georgia Wednesday availability report revealed
With the regular season in the books, the SEC Championship is set. It will be Alabama vs. Georgia in the title game, and both teams released their initial injury updates.
Georgia punched its ticket to Atlanta as the result of a tiebreaker following Texas A&M’s loss to Texas in Week 14. That left Alabama to get a win in the Iron Bowl against Auburn, and the Crimson Tide did just that to set up a rematch with the Bulldogs. The two teams previously squared off in the regular season – an Alabama victory.

Both Alabama and Georgia enter the SEC Championship in the projected 12-team College Football playoff bracket. The Bulldogs are in position for a first-round bye while the Crimson Tide jumped up one spot to No. 9 in the updated Top 25 heading into the title game.
But even though UGA and Alabama are playing an extra game before the CFP, Kirby Smart made it clear he’s not worrying about injuries. He stressed the importance of the SEC Championship and said being scared of injuries would impact his team’s mentality.

“If you worry about injury risk, we won’t practice next week. You live your life scared of injuries, you know what you get? A very scared team,” Smart said. “This is also an opportunity to win an SEC championship. Does that matter? Does anybody care about that anymore? I mean, I grew up thinking that was the greatest game in the world and just different from everybody else.
“Yeah, we lost guys today to injury. We’re going to lose guys in practice to injury. But, that’s next man up. Like, that’s what’s wrong with this whole thing now. It’s like, ‘Well, what if you get hurt? What if you do this? What if you do that?’ It’s football. It’s all part of it.”
Saturday’s SEC Championship will mark the fifth time Alabama and Georgia will meet in the title game, and the fourth since 2018, according to the SEC office. The Crimson Tide have a 4-0 record over the Bulldogs in Atlanta, most recently winning in 2023 during what turned turned out to be Nick Saban’s final season at the helm.
That game also marked the start of Alabama’s three-game win streak over Georgia, which continued this season. The Crimson Tide went into Sanford Stadium and took down the Bulldogs 24-21 in Week 5. Ty Simpson threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a rushing touchdown in the effort.
