SEC names Football Players of the Week after Week 6

Week 6 was another significant one in the Southeastern Conference, with six of the ten teams who took the field in the league this weekend previously being in Top-20. With that, the SEC has announced the Players of the Week coming out of Saturday.
Week 6 saw eight players selected as Player of the Week by the SEC on Monday. Only four programs were represented, though, with one program having three selections and two programs having two apiece.
Here are those players as named by the Southeastern Conference this morning:
Offensive
Lagway had not performed as well through the first four games of the season down in Gainesville. However, coming out of the bye week, the Gators’ quarterback played one of the best games of his young career in an upset win over No. 9 Texas.
In the 29-21 win for Florida in The Swamp, Lagway was 21-28 (75%) for 298 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, with the completion rate, passing yardage, and touchdown throws being top-three to top-five through seventeen appearances since last season. That was much-needed for the Gators this weekend, with it earning him the honor as SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
Defensive
A pair of linebackers went on to be named as Co-Defensive Players of the Week in the SEC. They each did so in winning performances for top-ten teams with Jefferson for the Crimson Tide and Sanford for the Aggies.
During the 30-14 win for ‘Bama over No. 16 Vanderbilt, Jefferson posted a career-best of 14 tackles as well as a sack and a forced fumble, which helped make for a long day for QB Diego Pavia and the Commodores’ offense. Then, during the 31-9 win for A&M over Mississippi State, Sanford also had a career-high with nine tackles along with his first-ever interception and a sack, with it being his third-straight performance with one.
Special Teams
Oklahoma was the lone team with one selection on this honors list this week. That’s with Sandell going three-for-three on field goals, including a career-long make from 55, and five-for-five on extra points in a 44-0 shutout for the Sooners over Kent State.
Spierto, a wide receiver for Florida, also earned recognition for a play that he made on special teams. He blocked a punt by the Longhorns to create a safety that extended the Gators’ lead going into halftime, which ended as an eight-point win.

Offensive Line
Brailsford has held down the middle of the line this season for Alabama. He did so again on Saturday in what was another big-time offensive outing for the Tide.
Brailsford didn’t allow for any pressure or hits on QB Ty Simpson, who was great again being 23-31 (74.2%) for 340 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. ‘Bama then posted 486 yards of offense in total, at an average of 6.7 yards per play, against Vandy behind efforts like those of Brailsford.
Defensive Line
The Aggies held the Bulldogs to their fewest points in nearly two years with their effort on Saturday in College Station. Howell was a big part of that with one of his better games at A&M.
In the victory, Howell had a career-high of three sacks and three total tackles along with a deflection. With that, Texas A&M held Mississippi State to not just the nine points but to just 219 overall yards of offense in their loss from Aggieland.
Freshman
Wilson, a four-star prospect and top-ten receiver per Rivals’ Industry Rankings for the 2025 recruiting cycle, made his collegiate debut this weekend. What a debut it was too in how he helped the Gators’ offense in their upset win agains the Longhorns.
Wilson caught six passes, two of those going for touchdowns, for 111 yards, averaging 18.5 yards per reception, making it one of the best performances ever in the first game for a true freshman down in The Swamp. His arrival was also seemingly a large part of Lagway’s return to form this weekend, which could suggest some success that the duo could now have moving forward this season.
