Sherrone Moore arraignment: Bond amount, requirements revealed for ex-Michigan football coach

After news broke of his detainment by police in Washtenaw County, Mich., the charges against former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore were revealed on Friday. Moore was charged with home invasion in the third degree, stalking, and breaking and entering.

Per the release, home invasion in the third degree is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $2,000 fine. Stalking is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Breaking and entering is a violation of this statute is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.

During his arraignment, Moore’s bond amount and requirements were revealed by the judge.

• $25,000 bond.
• Moore is not to use alcohol, marijuana, or any other controlled substance that is not prescribed.
• Moore is not to possess or purchase a firearm or any other dangerous weapon.
• Moore is not to engage in any criminal conduct of any kind whatsoever.
• Moore is not able to leave the state of Michigan without permission of the court.
• Prior to Moore’s release, he will be placed on a GPS tether (ankle monitor).
• Moore must continue all mental health treatment as a condition of his bond.
• Moore may not have contact with the individual involved in the altercation.
• This includes no calling, no writing, no video chatting, no texting, no e-mailing, or any other form of contact. He also will not be able to reply if the individual reaches out to them.
• Moore may not go to the individual’s location for any reason whatsoever.

Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail at approx. 8:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 10. That came after his detainment by police. Officers responded to the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Rd. in Pittsfield Township at approx. 4:10 p.m. ET on Dec. 10 to investigate an alleged assault, the Pittsfield Township Police Department said in a statement late Dec. 10.

“The Pittsfield Police Department responded to the above location at the above date and time for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault,” the statement read. “The department has received multiple media requests for information. A suspect in this case was taken into custody. This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community. The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor.

“At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigations, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as permissible.”

ESPN’s Dan Wetzel reported Moore’s detainment by police in Saline, Mich. on Dec. 10. The Detroit News’ Tony Paul later added that an incident occurred that day, which required police attention. In a statement to ESPN, the Saline Police Department said it assisted in the situation and turned him over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department.

“The City of Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore,” Saline Police said in a statement to ESPN. “Mr. Moore was turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges.”

UM also announced Sherrone Moore’s firing Dec. 10, which AD Warde Manuel said was for cause. A university investigation found evidence of an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which Manuel said was grounds for firing. On3’s Pete Nakos also confirmed Wolverines players were abruptly called for a team meeting, where they learned of the news.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Manuel said in a statement. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior. Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.”

Michigan went 9-3 during the 2025 regular season, including a 2-0 record with Poggi as acting head coach while Moore served a suspension as a result of a sign-stealing investigation into the program. The Wolverines are set to play against Texas in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
