Sherrone Moore firing: Tyrann Mathieu makes plea to Bryce Underwood after news
Jaws dropped all around the college football world Wednesday night as it was announced that Sherrone Moore had fired as Michigan‘s head coach. He took over for Jim Harbaugh in 2024 and led the Wolverines to a 16-8 record in the full-time role.
On3 confirmed Wolverines players were abruptly called for a team meeting, where they learned of the news. Michigan AD Warde Manuel then announced the decision was for cause after a university investigation found “credible evidence that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member” in a statement. Biff Poggi will serve as the interim head coach.
Just minutes after the news broke, LSU alum and four-time NFL All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu took to social media to recruit Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood to Baton Rouge.
“Come home son (Bryce Underwood),” Mathieu wrote on X/Twitter. “We are waiting & will accept you with open arms. FOREVER LSU.”
The New Orleans native, highly regarded as one of the program’s best players of all time, was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. He was also named a Consensus All-American and First Team All-SEC selection. With apparent turmoil in Ann Arbor and Lane Kiffin‘s splash hire in Baton Rouge, Mathieu is doing all he can do to bring one of the most electric young players in all of college football to LSU.

Bryce Underwood originally flipped from LSU to Michigan in recruiting process
Bryce Underwood was the No. 1 ranked recruit in the Class of 2025 and served as Michigan‘s starting quarterback this season as a true freshman. Underwood passed for 2,229 yards and nine touchdowns while tossing six interceptions. He also rushed for 323 yards and five more scores, leading the Wolverines to a 9-3 record.
Underwood was originally committed to LSU and former head coach Brian Kelly, but flipped to Michigan on Nov. 21, 2024.
“Just an exciting time,” Moore originally told On3 following Underwood’s flip last fall. “The guys understanding what the culture is like, what the vision is for the program and I think that’s why we’re getting these high-level kids. Guys that want to be part of bringing back what has been the last couple years of Michigan football.”
Just a little over one year later however, Moore will no longer lead the Michigan football program. Underwood’s next steps have not yet been revealed.
