Syracuse QB Steve Angeli will miss the rest of the 2025 season with an Achilles tear, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Angeli underwent an MRI on Sunday, revealing the extent of the injury.

His diagnosis goes along with what head coach Fran Brown said after the upset win over Clemson. Brown told Matt Park that on the postgame radio show that his QB would be “out for a long time,” with the injury.

Angeli played in just four games for Syracuse during the 2025 season. If granted a medical redshirt, he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.

The injury occurred during the third quarter against the Tigers. He stumbled awkwardly on the quarterback keeper and went down without being touched late in the third quarter. Of course, he wasn’t able to return.

Angeli was off to a strong start to the new college football season. He was completing nearly 63 percent of his passing attempts for 1,316 yards to go with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He led the Orange to a 3-1 record, including three-straight wins before going out with injury.

2025 was Angeli’s first season with the program after spending the first two years of his college career at Notre Dame. Angeli was a backup for both seasons, but put up respectable numbers having thrown for over 750 yards and 10 touchdowns during that span.

Just one play after Angeli exited the game, backup quarterback Rickie Collins threw an 18-yard touchdown to receiver Justus Ross-Simmons to give the Orange a whopping 34-14 lead over the Tigers in Death Valley. Syracuse would go on to win its ACC opener against the Tigers 34-21.

Prior to his exit of the game, Angeli completed 18-31 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. His contributions helped the Orange knock off Clemson for the first time since the 2017 season.

Syracuse will have to turn toward Collins as its new quarterback moving forward. He’s off to a strong start coming in to close out the massive win.

Looking ahead, the Orange will continue ACC play against Duke at home during Week 5. Syracuse has key matchups against Georgia Tech, Miami and Notre Dame down the stretch still to come. All three provide a perfect opportunity to prove that Syracuse’s win over Clemson was no fluke.

Kickoff between the Orange and Blue Devils is scheduled for Noon ET. The broadcast will air live on the ACC Network.
