The Week 4 game between Texas A&M and Arkansas has been selected to be the SEC’s Game of the Week. The game will take place in the neutral site of AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Rivalry History

This rivalry is over a century old as it was started way back in 1903. In 1928, it became an annual contest between the two schools. They would play 63-consecutive years up until 1991 when the Razorbacks left what was known as the southwest conference for the SEC. Currently, Arkansas leads the series 41-33 with three ties. The game recently was branded as The Southwest Classic.

There is still one more week of football left to be played before the Aggies and Razorbacks face off on Sept. 25. This weekend, Texas A&M will have to take care of business against the University of New Mexico Lobos. The Lobos are 2-0 on the season. The Razorbacks will take on the Georgia Southern Eagles at home, who are fresh off a loss against Florida Atlantic.
As of now, both teams are sitting at 2-0 with wins last week that they achieved in two totally different ways.

How we got here

The Razorbacks get away with another Texas team and soon-to-be SEC rival in the Texas Longhorns. Arkansas dominated the game on both sides of the ball from the opening kickoff. On offense, the Razorbacks rushed for 333 yards. Which were more yards than the Longhorn offense had altogether. Defensively they allowed Just 118 yards through the air, less than half of what Texas had in their previous game. Arkansas went on to win the game 40-21.

The Aggies on the other hand were in hey dog fight against the Colorado Buffaloes. Texas A&M struggled to move the ball on offense after starting quarterback hangs king left in the first quarter with a leg injury. But what saved the game for the Aggies was their defense in the passing game. They allowed just 89 yards through the air and had one interception. Texas A&M didn’t have a lead in the game until late in the fourth quarter. That’s when a touchdown pass to running back Isaiah Spiller put them up 10-7.

Gameday details

With the game being at a neutral site and not too far away from both campuses, both fan bases should be well represented. The trip from the University of Arkansas to the stadium is a little over 350 miles. For those coming from the Texas A&M, it’s 190 miles away and a three-hour drive.

If both teams remain unbeaten it will be just one of many anticipated top-25 battles between SEC teams. Currently, the Texas A&M Aggies are No. 7 and the Razorbacks are No. 20 in the AP top-25 poll. The matchup is set for Saturday, Sept. 25 on CBS. The kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. EST.
