After Arkansas suffered a 69-66 loss to Michigan State on Saturday, Razorbacks forward Trevon Brazile appeared to hit a Spartans fan in the face with his towel while walking toward the tunnel. The Michigan State fan who was hit grabbed the towel and continued to taunt the Arkansas players.

Arkansas forward Malique Ewin attempted to grab the towel out of the fan’s hands, but was pushed forward by the Razorbacks’ coaching staff. Prior to the incident, fans were chanting “airball” at Brazile, whose game-winning shot attempt fell short of the rim and bounced out of bounds.

In the loss, Brazile recorded just three points and two rebounds in 16 minutes of action. He shot 1-5 from the field and 0-2 from beyond the arc. Numerous Arkansas fans expressed their frustration online with Brazile’s shot selection on the final play of the game.

In fairness, Trevon Brazile wasn’t the only Razorback who had a subpar shooting night. Arkansas shot 39.3% from the floor and 25.0% from 3-point range in the loss. After the game, Arkansas head coach John Calipari said his players didn’t play well enough as a team.

“The guys didn’t lose themselves into the team,” Calipari said. “Whatever the team needs me to do for us, we didn’t play that way, and it’s good for me to see, and it’s good for them to see.

“Individually, when you do that and you’re playing for yourself, it’s hard. You’re out there by yourself, you make a mistake, you trip over. When you lose yourself in the team, you’re just doing what the team needs you to do and what you’re capable of doing.”

Arkansas committed 14 turnovers in the loss and allowed Michigan State to score 46 points in the paint. Nonetheless, there were silver linings for the Razorbacks.

Freshmen Meleek Thomas and Darius Acuff Jr. each scored 16 points against the Spartans. Thomas also recorded six rebounds, while Acuff notched six assists. Although the loss is undoubtedly a setback for the Razorbacks, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo believes Arkansas has a strong team.

“You watched John’s team, they are going to win a lot of games. I’m telling you, that is a talented team, and they’ve got to learn to play together, too, just like we’re trying to do,” Izzo said. “… First time on the road, some of those freshmen, it’s going to take a little while for him, too. But he’s got a nice team. He really does.”
