Urban Meyer breaks down Heisman Finalists: ‘I love Bo Nix’

Four Heisman finalists have descended on New York this weekend, with one man set to walk away with the storied trophy. And though he doesn’t think he’ll win it, Urban Meyer would give the award to Oregon quarterback Bo Nix.

Discussing the matter on “Urban’s Take with Tim May,” Meyer raved about Nix and the aggressive mode of play he’s keyed in at Oregon. But Meyer also thinks the pair of losses to Washington have undone the campaign for Nix.

“I think — I love Bo Nix. He plays the position the way I love to see it played. He’s a runner, thrower, tough guy. A great leader. And I’m so shocked they lost. I think Washington’s really good, I don’t wanna devalue Washington. I like the coach at Oregon, spent some time with him on the phone a couple times, I just like the aggressiveness of him. A lot of people took shots at him for going for it on fourth down. I tried that all the time and I just want our players to feel the aggressiveness and locker rooms appreciate that. So, Bo Nix, to me, would’ve won it,” Meyer said.

So if not Nix, who of the other three finalists — Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., LSU’s Jayden Daniels and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. — does Meyer think will take home the Heisman?

“But I think it’s going to be Jayden Daniels. He’s put up Star Wars numbers,” Meyer said.

Daniels has, indeed, leading the country in total yards and touchdowns responsible for, among a bevy of other statistical categories. He’s also been one of the most effective deep passers in the entire country this season.

Harrison also got an honorable mention from Meyer, who considers the wideout to be perhaps the greatest in Ohio State history, a lofty mark.

“You know how I feel about Marvin. Marvin needs to be in New York, I’m glad he’s going,” Meyer said. “He’ll go down as the greatest receiver — saying, greatest in Ohio State history, my god. Going back to Cris Carter and [Chris] Olave and Garrett [Wilson] and Mike Thomas and my gosh. And he’ll be a Top 3, Top 5 pick. I’d have a hard time not taking him No. 1. I think he’ll be a generational NFL talent.”

Even still, come ceremony time, Meyer — who was mum on Penix — thinks it’ll be Daniels getting the honors in New York City on Saturday.
