Urban Meyer fires shot at Ann Arbor, Michigan fans: 'Man, is that an awful place'

College football is all about rivalries. There may be no better rivalry in all of college football than Ohio State vs. Michigan in ‘The Game.’
In the 119 years of the matchup, many players/coaches have etched their names in the history books thanks to how well they played against either Ohio State or Michigan. Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who was in charge of the program from 2012-2018, is one of these legendary coaches.
Over his seven-year stint in Columbus, Meyer led the Buckeyes to a 7-0 record against the Wolverines. Since Meyer left, however, Michigan has won four of the last five meetings.
During the latest edition of ‘The Triple Option‘ podcast live from Columbus prior to No. 1 Ohio State‘s game against Penn State this Saturday, Meyer was asked about the Michigan rivalry.
“It’s in Ann Arbor and man, is that an awful place,” Meyer said. “When you come driving in that bus, it’s almost like I got post-traumatic stress disorder or whatnot. When you drive, the bus comes in and you turn the corner and see the block ‘M’ and your heart starts racing. You see the people. I don’t think there’s another person alive that respects the rivalry like I do. When I say that out of respect that I can’t stand them.”

Meyer speaks highly of former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh
Meyer stepped down as Ohio State‘s head coach following the 2018 season and was named the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to 2021. His stint in Jacksonville was a disaster, as the Jaguars won just two of their first 13 games before he was fired. Since then, Meyer has served as analyst on FOX‘s ‘Big Noon Kickoff‘ alongside Rob Stone, Matt Leinart and Mark Ingram.
While at Ohio State, Meyer coached against Jim Harbaugh in his final four editions of ‘The Game.’ Meyer won all four games and speaks highly of Harbaugh, who much like Meyer, stepped down from his program and ventured back into the National Football League.
“I think he’s obviously a hell of a football coach,” Meyer said. “He’s absolutely made for what he’s doing. So, I see the same thing, but no. To answer your question. I have no ill will at all. We get along fine. The times we were together, shook hands, smiled. ‘Hey, how’s the family doing?’ Wish you well and move on, but that was about it.”
This year’s edition of ‘The Game’ is scheduled for Nov. 29 in Ann Arbor. Ohio State is ranked No. 1 in the country with an unblemished 8-0 (4-0) record, while Michigan sits at 6-2 (4-1) with a No. 21 ranking.
