Ahead of another trip to see Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders in person, former college football coach Urban Meyer joined On3’s Tim May for this week’s episode of Urban’s Take, where the two discussed the upcoming challenge the Buffaloes face in USC.

Right off the bat, May asked Meyer why he and the FOX crew have cozied up to the Buffaloes so often this early in the season. The answer:

“Oh, it’s still a great story,” said Meyer, pointing right to the deciding factor: “And, you know, why are we there? Look at the numbers when we got there in the past. We, you know, we dominated the airwaves. I mean, everybody’s intrigued by this, rightfully so.”

Meyer then credited Sanders for the success so far, certainly compared to a year ago for that program, but did warn that another outing like the Oregon game could be in store for Saturday.

“It’s an incredible job that Deion and his coaching staff, and then most importantly his players, have done,” Meyer said. “But reality is upon us and reality is they went to Oregon and got just — got beat badly. And then this one’s not gonna be good. This one’s USC.”

Urban Meyer says he really hasn’t dug too deep into the Trojans yet this year but is well aware that quarterback Caleb Williams is one of the top players in the sport.

“I’ve not really studied USC, but you’re talking about this quarterback. And I talked to Kliff Kingsbury and then also Matt Leinart. I’m telling you now, this guy is —you know, I say Marvin Harrison is the best player in college football. I don’t know. I think it’s right there,” said Meyer, making a scale out of his two hands to suggest that Williams and Harrison are neck and neck for that honor.

“But this kid, he’s as good as I’ve ever seen,” Meyer added, clarifying: “We’re talking about Caleb Williams.”

So far, both players are performing up to that billing. Through four games, Caleb Williams has tossed for nice and even 1,200 passing yards, allowing us to do the simple math and determine that he’s averaging 300 yards a game on the dot. He’s also thrown for 15 touchdowns and ran for three more.

Meanwhile, Marvin Harrison isn’t quite posting the crooked numbers he did with CJ Stroud at QB, but he’s been darn good regardless with 336 yards and three touchdowns while, as always, sharing the field with other terrific playmakers.
