South Florida head coach Alex Golesh is among the most hottest Group of Five candidates in the current coaching carousel, with the 41-year-old offensive guru believed to in the mix for several open Power Four jobs. In an attempt to get ahead of any rumors, USF CEO of Athletics Rob Higgins updated the Bulls fanbase about where things currently stand with their highly-coveted third-year head football coach.

“Since Saturday’s game, Coach Golesh has been presented with outside opportunities that he has been transparent about with us. We are respectful and supportive of Coach and his family in their decision making process. We’ll remain in constant communication,” Higgins said Wednesday afternoon on X/Twitter. “Bulls Nation, rest assured, we are ultra prepared for every scenario that could unfold in the coming hours/days. Our commitment and investment has never been higher and we’re also laser focused on being great stewards of our resources. Most importantly, the future of USF Football has never been more bright! Go Bulls!”

Golesh, who has led the Bulls to a 8-3 overall record and 5-2 in American Conference play in Year 3, is among several leading candidates for the open Arkansas job, according to On3 insider Pete Nakos, alongside Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield and Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. According to Nakos, the Razorbacks coaching search hopes to have some clarity on its direction in the day or so. Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek has reportedly spoken to over 20 candidates and has worked to keep his coaching search fairly low profile.

Golesh is in his third season in Tampa after serving three years as Josh Heupel‘s offensive coordinator, both at Tennessee (2021-22) and UCF (2020).

South Florida still has its upcoming regular-season finale Saturday against Rice (7 pm ET, ESPN+), as well as a bowl game remaining. Of course, should Golesh accept a head coaching job after Saturday’s game, he’d unlikely remain with the Bulls through the postseason.

Kane Wommack doesn’t address question regarding job interest after connection to Arkansas

This past weekend, Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack was among several names connected to the open Arkansas head coaching search, which is expected to be nearing a conclusion.

When asked about it at his Monday media availability, Wommack quickly and politely ended that discussion for the time being with his answer.

“Yeah, I appreciate the question, but, you know, I’m just not going to address any, you know, job opportunity stuff,” Wommack said.
