USF coach Alex Golesh dodges radio host encouraging him to take a 'long stay in the fall' in Fayetteville

Arkansas is currently one of three SEC teams searching for a new coach after it parted ways with Sam Pittman following a 2-3 start to the season. Offensive coordinator/ former head coach Bobby Petrino was promoted to interim head coach for the remainder of the year.
Along with Petrino campaigning to be re-hired as the full-time head coach for the second time, Arkansas is vetting many candidates to lead the program into the future. One of these candidates will certainly be USF head coach Alex Golesh, who was previously Tennessee‘s offensive coordinator from 2021-22 before accepting the South Florida job in 2023.
Under Golesh, USF is 20-14 overall. The Bulls are, however, off to a 6-2 start this season and are squarely in the mix for the Group of Five bid in the College Football Playoff. With Golesh being a hot name in the wild coaching carousel, Arkansas superfan Bobby Bones (real name Bobby Estell) humorously pitched the city of Fayetteville to Golesh on the latest edition of the ‘25 Whistles with Bobby Bones‘ podcast.
Golesh’s wife, Alexis, was born in Arkansas.
“You ever been to Arkansas in the fall?” Estell asked. “Just generally speaking. You ever go back for family and stuff? I just wonder if you poke back in to see how amazing Fayetteville is in the fall. Just a general question.”
“Yeah, I have never been to Fayetteville in the fall,” Golesh responded. “If I have time in the fall to visit somewhere, then that means that we got problems.”
Bobby Bones then got a grin on his face. From there, he continued to hype up the city of Fayetteville.
“I think if you spend just a little time in Fayetteville, and it’d be great for your wife to be back,” Estell said. “Maybe a long stay in the fall in Fayetteville, Coach. Just throwing that out there. Fayetteville would welcome you with open arms. Just as like a vacation, you know?”

Just when Estell thinks he may have Golesh, the USF head coach pushed his coach speak button. While mentioning the beautiful beaches in Tampa, Florida, he reiterated the focus of an American Conference Championship.
“Well, I tell you this. It is in the high 70s right now,” Golesh said. “The most beautiful beaches in the entire country are 20 minutes away. We’ve got a conference title run to go make, so maybe in February.”
Finally, Estell finished his pitch. He let Golesh know that although he is rooting for him and his USF program, he’d certainly like to see him be the next head coach at the University of Arkansas.
“It’s pretty all the time, coach. It’s pretty all the time. I’m rooting for you guys, but just letting you know there’s nothing like family. We all love our wives and as someone who spends a lot of time in Fayetteville, we’d love to bump into you sometime at a coffee shop.”
