Washington lands commitment from top QB target Derek Zammit

Wayne (NJ) DePaul Catholic On300 quarterback Derek Zammit has committed to Washington.
The four-star passer chose to play for head coach Jedd Fisch and the Huskies over his other finalists in Alabama and Mississippi State.
“It was a lot of things,” Zammit said. “Obviously Coach Fisch, Coach Dougherty, Coach Losman, obviously they all played big factors in it. Just the relationship.
Obviously the coaches, then the offense they run is pretty big and pretty important to me. They run a pro-style offense. Coach Fisch watched my film and showed direct comparison to their offense and the 49ers and Rams. That’s important to me.
“And then obviously I think it’s a good school. They were saying it’s one of the top public universities in the country. Obviously that’s important to me as well.”
The 6-foot-1, 193-pound Zammit visited earlier this month.
“It was something special about U Dub,” Zammit said. “I felt at home and I really liked the coaches. It was definitely crazy trying to figure it all out. I feel like I definitely made the right decision and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Zammit’s family is excited about the decision as well.
“The offense they run and the pro-style history of Washington putting quarterbacks in the NFL and how they develop them,” Zammit’s father Joe recently said. “They’re doing a good job creating a good relationship. The entire offensive staff from Coach (JP) Losman the assistant quarterbacks coach, Coach (Jimmie) Dougherty, Coach Fisch and the entire offensive staff keeping in constant contact with us and really appreciate that.”
Zammit is coming off a junior season where passed for 2,582 yards with 35 touchdowns and only four interceptions while completing 68% of his passes. He added 560 yards rushing and four additional scores.
On3 ranks him as the No. 237 overall prospect and No. 18 quarterback in the 2026 class. He played in the Under Armour All-America Game in January.
Fisch and Washington are up to eight commits in the 2026 class.
