Bryce Underwood is using his platform to give back to his Belleville, Michigan, community.

The top-ranked recruit in the 2025 class and Five-Star Plus+ quarterback won the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year this past fall for football. The LSU commit threw for 3,329 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2023, completing 64.9% of his attempts.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound quarterback threw just three interceptions while leading Belleville to the Michigan Division I state championship game. As part of his honor, each Gatorade state Player of the Year is allowed to choose a local or national youth sports organization to receive a $1,000 grant.

Underwood chose the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan as the recipient. He also had the opportunity to enter his organization for an additional $10,000 spotlight grant through a short video. The top recruit’s pitch was one of the grants awarded, giving the Boys & Girls Club an additional $10,000.

While current Michigan High School Athletic Association rules prohibit athletes from profiting off their NIL, Underwood can use his platform to give back to his community. Along with having the grant awarded to his local Boys & Girls Club, the LSU commit has been invited to Los Angeles in July to celebrate at the Gatorade Player of the Year event and received a ticket to the ESPY’s.

Latest on Bryce Underwood’s recruitment

He committed to LSU in January and was back in Baton Rouge this weekend. The nation’s top signal-caller has yet to make any other visits beyond LSU following his commitment. Underwood has maintained he’s locked in on the Tigers in an offseason that follows a historic season that saw LSU finish No. 1 in the NCAA in total offense with a Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback in Jayden Daniels.

The Tigers currently have the No. 2 class in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Underwood debuted as the No. 1 overall prospect in On3’s initial 2025 On300 back in March.

“There is a legitimate ‘wow’ factor to many of Underwood’s passes,” On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote about the LSU commit. “At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, there’s a degree of explosion in the arm that immediately sticks out. Underwood employs considerable torque to uncoil his long arms to result in a whippy motion that produces high RPM’s on the ball. He consistently shows the ability to rip throws 60+ yards downfield. Far hash throws look routine. He’s able to reset and quickly launch passes downfield in the face of pressure.”
