Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco five-star defensive lineman Matayo Uiagalelei is one of the prospects signed up to have a trading card through Prospex. Uiagalelei is the No. 23 overall prospect and No. 3 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Prospex’s NIL platform connects fans and players through the digital sale of a playing card. Players will name up to 10 possible programs, and fans will be able to buy a card of a player and that team.

When a player makes a decision and enrolls at their chosen school, fans will receive either a physical or web3 collectable version of the card. Players receive 85% of the sales revenues from the cards sold to fans of the program they decided to enroll in and attend.

For fans who invested in cards of teams that a player does not choose in their recruiting process, they can turn in that card and will receive 90% of their money back.

“The thing that is most exciting for us is what our vision is, which is empowering athletes and fans to own the NIL space in a way that that serves a real need,” Prospex co-founder Patricia Eiting said. “The idea is that it’s this fun and engaging platform that helps athletes determine which schools are really going to step up and support them.”

Uiagalelei has put up three trading cards: Ohio State, Oregon and USC. The 6-foot-5, 263-pound pass rusher announced Dec. 8 that those programs are his top three schools.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, it is a tight race for Uiagalelei’s commitment. The Trojans (38.4%) and Buckeyes (33%) are close, while the Ducks (17.3%) are a little farther behind.

Matayo Uiagalelei On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Matayo Uiagalelei:

A big jumbo athlete who doubles as a tight end and defensive end for one of the nation’s top high school programs. Has unique movement skills and speed at 6-foot-5 and over 260 pounds. Is able to run with linebackers and some defensive backs at his size. Has shown some improvement as a pass catcher over the course of 2021.
