As a famous former Texas Tech quarterback gets ready to play in the biggest game of the year, one of the university’s NIL collectives is trying to send fans to Las Vegas to can watch.

On Wednesday, The Matador Club announced “Victory in Vegas: Big Game Experience,” auctioning off a trip to Sin City for Super Bowl LVIII as Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers. Fans can bid on the trip, which includes a private jet and a three-night stay at the Wynn/Encore in Las Vegas, with proceeds benefitting Texas Tech student-athletes.

The all-expense paid trip consists of two tickets to the big game, a bungalow at “Gronk Beach” at Wynn Beach Club, a table with bottle service at “Sports Illustrated: The Party” at XS Night Club and a spot at the Invite-Only Interscope Postgame Party at the Wynn.

Texas Tech great Patrick Mahomes back in Super Bowl

The AFC champion Kansas Chiefs are preparing to take on the NFC-winning 49ers in the game on Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium. Texas Tech faithful will see one of their own on the big stage once again. For the fourth time in five years, Patrick Mahomes will be under center for the Chiefs as he looks for his third Super Bowl ring.

Before he took the NFL by storm, Mahomes was a standout quarterback for the Red Raiders from 2015-17. As a sophomore, he threw for 4,653 yards and 36 touchdowns while adding 465 yards and 10 touchdowns in the running game. Then, in 2017, he took another leap with 5,052 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. He also had 285 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns as he became the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Now, he’s looking to bring another ring back home to Kansas City, and he could do so in front of fans who saw him star in Lubbock – a full-circle moment.

More on Matador Club’s efforts at Texas Tech

One of two NIL collectives at Texas Tech, along with Dark Horse Collaborative, The Matador Club launched in February 2022 with a focus on Texas Tech football and basketball. Since its inception, the collective has agreed to multiple notable NIL deals, including one in July 2022 with 100 football players worth $25,000 each. It’s developed into the top collective for the Red Raiders.

Last year, The Matador Club hosted an event at the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts called “An Evening with Lubbock Legends.” It included performances from three musicians and Texas Tech alumni: Josh Abbott, Pat Green and William Clark Green, and all proceeds went toward helping NIL efforts through the collective.

The Matador Club also announced a fundraising partnership with the Red Raider Club in June 2023. As part of the agreement, the Red Raider Club would help promote and assist with money-gathering efforts for The Matador Club, although the two will remain separate entities.
