Bryce Young sets Panthers single-game passing record in win over Falcons
Panthers quarterback Bryce Young made history in Carolina’s 30-27 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. In the victory, Young completed 31-of-his-45 pass attempts for 448 total yards, the most in a single game in franchise history.
Along the way, Young also notched three passing touchdowns, compared to zero interceptions. Young surpassed Cam Newton for the record. Newton tallied 432 passing yards against the Green Bay Packers in 2011.
Before Sunday, Young’s career-high for passing yards in a single game was 328 yards. He accomplished this feat in the Panthers’ 27-22 loss to the Arizona Cardinals earlier this season.
Thankfully for Young, his record-breaking day wasn’t spoiled by a loss this time around. The Panthers forced the Falcons to punt in overtime before kicking in a field goal to secure the win.
With the triumph, the Panthers are now 6-5. Carolina has won five of its last seven games. It’s a massive step forward for the organization, which finished with just two wins last season. In October, Young discussed the Panthers’ improvement.
“We’re definitely continuing to build and grow in the right direction,” Young said. “Really, one of the biggest things that we’ve noticed is just ownership. Coach has done a great job of laying the foundation for us. And they’ll be the first to tell you they emphasize it, make sure we take ownership in the culture and the plays and in our routines and whatever it is.

“Everyone’s gotten a lot more comfortable embracing that. I’m embracing the culture, embracing the ownership and all the little things, and I think us being able to come into our own, it’s been great. It’s been great to be a part of, and it’s been great to be a leader through it. So you know there’s still work to do. Still so much for us to build off of. There’s still so much for us to grow in, and you know we’re just taking it week by week, but I’m super grateful to be a part of it.”
Perhaps nobody has played a larger role in the Panthers’ growth than Bryce Young himself. After a rocky start to his NFL career, Young has found a rhythm and is thriving this season.
He’s completed 61.7% of his pass attempts for 1,514 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, compared to seven interceptions. Additionally, Young has one rushing TD.
Next week, Bryce Young will have an opportunity to put his skills on display for the entire world. The Panthers will square off against the San Francisco 49ers in a Monday Night Football showdown.
