Carson Hocevar fires back at Zane Smith, NASCAR critics with music selection

Carson Hocevar had an eventful day at the Iowa Corn 350, from a wreck himself to a post-race confrontation with another driver’s crew chief. And the driver of the No. 77 car seems completely unfazed by all the noise.
Hocevar took to his Instagram account following the race to make a post that will likely further infuriate his critics. The song choice for the post? IDGAF by Drake … which translates to ‘I don’t give a f***.’
The post also included a picture of a ticket counter with the message to “please take a number.” That could be taken any number of ways, but it might just be in reference to a journalist’s tweet after the race. First, though, you can check out the post for yourself below.
So what was Carson Hocevar referencing with the ticket counter? It would appear to be a riff off the following tweet from journalist Toby Christie.
“They’re going to start having to place a number ticket dispenser on pit road by the No. 77 car after these races,” Christie tweeted. “After an incident with Zane Smith today, Smith’s crew chief, Ryan Bergenty, sought out Carson Hocevar on pit road for a talk.”
At the end of the day, Hocevar would have a post-race interview interrupted by Bergenty. On the video of the interview, Bergenty can be heard initiating the conversation.
“Hey, when are you going to learn to f****** drive, dude?” Bergenty said, per journalist Stephen Stumpf. “I mean you wiped us the f*** out.”

Stumpf, who was conducting the interview with Carson Hocevar, would add more context, as well. He noted that Bergenty questioned Hocevar’s driving ability.
“Our car is fucking wrecked because you drive like a f****** r****d,” Bergenty said, per Stumpf. And Smith’s team was not the only one to take issue with Hocevar. Shane van Gisbergen also voiced his displeasure after an incident.
Van Gisbergen (inside) was driving alongside Joey Logano (outside) when Hocevar flew to the inside of the track, pushing them three-wide. Van Gisbergen made contact with Logano, but luckily neither of the two spun. Still, it left van Gisbergen fuming, at least by his standards.
“Hey, go apologize to the 22,” van Gisbergen told his crew chief. “That wanker in the 77 just shoved it three-wide.”
Will Carson Hocevar tone things down after another contentious weekend on the track? Given his post on Instagram and the tone… don’t hold your breath.
