Georgia Tech cruised past Gardner Webb in its Week 2 matchup, getting the blowout win despite not having quarterback Haynes King. He suffered a lower body injury in the season opener against Colorado and did not start the second game of the year. Aaron Philo got the nod instead, and he threw for 373 yards and a touchdown in the effort.
In the first game against Colorado, King completed 13 of 20 passes for 143 yards in the air. He did most of his work on the ground, though, as he ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns to help lead Georgia Tech to the come-from-behind victory over the Buffaloes in Boulder.

“I can’t say enough about Haynes King as a football player, as a person, as a leader, but we’ve also got other people around him now that are stepping up as leaders as well,” Georgia Tech coach Brent Key said. “So it’s not all on his shoulders. It’s not all on him to have to lead and do all those things. So proud of the whole team really rallying around Haynes last night too.”
Clemson, meanwhile, had to avoid an upset against Troy in Week 2. The Trojans took a commanding 16 lead in the first half before the Tigers came back to eventually take a lead in the second half. Dabo Swinney’s group rattled off 20 unanswered points at one point to get in front and never looked back, avoiding a stunning loss.
For Clemson, Week 2 presented an opportunity to try and bounce back from a Week 1 home loss to LSU. Another key game awaits in Week 3, though, with a Georgia Tech team looking to make some noise in the ACC in 2025.
