Green Bay Packers release kicker Alex Hale

The Green Bay Packers announced on Monday they have released kicker Alex Hale. During training camp last year, Hall joined the Packers’ practice squad as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program.
Hale signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in August after going undrafted. He played college football at Oklahoma State and was selected to the All-Big 12 Second Team in 2023 after going 27 for 34 on his field goal attempts and 36 for 38 on extra points.
Alex Hale is from Australia and was part of his country’s World Cup soccer developmental program. Shortly after joining the Packers last year, Hale talked about moving to America and playing football.
“I stopped wakeskating and I wanted to go to college and wanted to pursue a sport at the same time,” Hale said, per Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated. “So, I began looking at kicking and I started from scratch. Went to see John [Carney] and he told me as much as he could and sent me on my way.”

Looking at the Packers’ kicking situation after the Alex Hale release
The Packers began the 2024 season with Brayden Narvenson as their kicker. But after missing five of his 17 field goal attempts in the first six weeks of the season, the Packers released him and signed Brandon McManus. In 11 regular-season games, McManus made 20 of his 21 field goal attempts and was 30 for 30 on extra points. In March of this year, McManus signed a three-year, $15.3 million contract extension with the Packers.
“I had a good conversation with him before he left and obviously, you guys saw how he solidified that journey we were going on,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said in January, per Dominique Yates of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “He’s a veteran guy. The thing that was so neat about being around him was not only his confidence, but his ability to adjust. No matter where we were, what weather we had. Our specialist group with Matt (Orzech) and Daniel (Whelan), if we were able to get Brandon back, I think certainly, that would make me feel very good about that group.”
