KaVontae Turpin injury update: Cowboys WR exits game with concerning issue vs. Giants

Dallas Cowboys‘ dynamic playmaker KaVontae Turpin is questionable to return after suffering what was described as a neck injury on a third-quarter kickoff return. Turpin was fighting for extra yardage on a 28-yard return when Giants defensive back Dane Belton went helmet-to-helmet to bring him down.

FOX sideline reporter Pam Oliver announced Turpin was questionable to return with his neck injury after a change in possession early in the fourth quarter with the Giants nursing a 23-20 lead.

“You noticed KaVontae Turpin left the sidelines, the dynamic player has a neck injury,” Oliver said during the broadcast. “Turpin’s return in questionable.”

Turpin is in his fourth season with the Cowboys and has become a go-to player on both offense and special teams after a breakout All-Pro season in 2024. The TCU alum led the NFL with a career-high 904 kick return yards last seasonto go along with 420 receiving yards and 92 rushing yards as Dallas’ do-it-all gadget playmaker.

KaVontae Turpin addresses offseason marijuana, weapon arrest: ‘I gotta be better’

Dallas Cowboys WR and All-Pro kick returner KaVontae Turpin was arrested earlier this month on charges related to marijuana and weapons possession. The news came ahead of his fourth season with the franchise.

Turpin has since returned to the field for Dallas and is an active participant in training camp. Following Wednesday’s practice, Turpin addressed his arrest for the first time with the media.

“At the end of the day, I gotta be better,” Turpin said, via Jon . “Me and (Brian Schottenheimer) had a great conversation. We’re in a great place right now. I gotta take accountability.”

Details from the arrest, via TMZ Sports, stated that the Allen Police Department pulled the Cowboys wideout over around 11:49 p.m. after Turpin was clocked at 97 mph in a 70 mph zone, per the report. An unholstered 9MM pistol was seen in the backseat and less than two ounces of marijuana were later found in the car’s center console.

Turpin was eventually booked on two misdemeanor charges: one count of possession of marijuana less than two ounces and one count of unlawful carrying of a weapon. He later posted bond, which was listed at $1,500 per the police report.
