Michael Jordan to join NBC’s NBA coverage as ‘special contributor’

NBA legend Michael Jordan is set to join NBC’s coverage of the league next season as a “special contributor,” according to an announcement from the network. Jordan’s role isn’t quite specified, but with the NBA returning to NBC, Jordan will be a face of the coverage.
In an announcement video, NBC simply just showed Jordan highlights during his days with the Chicago Bulls. It didn’t specify what kind of role the GOAT will have.
You can see the announcement below. The NBA is set to return to NBC, and also be featured on Peacock, for the first time in over two decades.
In his post-playing days, Jordan became an owner of the Charlotte Hornets (then the Charlotte Bobcats), but has since sold some of his stake as of 2019. He still maintains minority ownership.
Jordan also fielded 23XI Racing in NASCAR, alongside Denny Hamlin, running the team since 2020. Now, add NBA contributor to his resume.
NBC not only announced Jordan as a contributor, but also previously revealed Carmelo Anthony will be an analyst during the network’s coverage of the league. He’ll serve as a studio analyst.

“Watching the NBA on NBC growing up shaped my love for the game,” Anthony said. “Now I’m thrilled to join the NBC Sports family. I’ve always used my platform to help grow the game, and I’m excited to bring fans a fresh perspective as we usher in a new era of NBA coverage and programming.”
Anthony played 19 seasons in the NBA before announcing his retirement in 2023. He played for a total of six different franchises throughout his career, primarily the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks.
Anthony is a 10-time All-Star who also won the scoring title in 2012-13 when he averaged 28.7 points per game. He currently ranks 10th in league history with 28,289 career points and is a three-time Olympic gold medalist.
Anthony was named part of the 2025 class for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and is set to be inducted this September. He will get to work at NBC just a month later in October in time for the season to tip off.
