Seahawks rookie Byron Murphy II pranked into thinking he was stuck with $155K dinner bill

Seattle Seahawks (9-7) rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II recently experienced a welcome to the NFL moment, though not one on the field.
It came Murphy’s time to front the bill at a recent team dinner, which he was more than willing to — until he saw the check. A teammate handed Murphy the bill which read just north of $155,000, leaving Murphy in disbelief. Fortunately for Murphy, it was a prank. Murphy was actually on the hook for *only* $38,000.

Murphy should have had no problem covering the cost, given that he signed a fully guaranteed four-year, $16,083,122 deal after his selection in the first round (16th overall). The former Texas standout will soon wrap up his first season with the Seahawks, a season in which he’s been a solid contributor on Seattle’s defensive line.

Murphy has tallied 36 tackles (12 solo), two tackles for loss, half a sack and one quarterback hit in 13 games (nine starts) this season.
“Good,” Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde said last month of Murphy. “I think you see for a young rookie, these seasons are long. He kind of had that bit in between where he stepped away and he came back, and I’m really pleased with where he’s at. We’ve got a deep rotation in that part of the defense and he’s in and out and his play is consistent. He’s doing a good job.”
