Amari Niblack is another two-sport star from the Sunshine State. Along with his success on the football field, Niblack plays varsity basketball at Lakeland. In football, Niblack had a career game against Hardee on Oct. 15, 2020, with seven receptions for 170 yards and three touchdowns. “Amari just keeps getting better week after week after week after week,” Lakewood head coach Cory Moore told On3. “He continues to go to another level. He does a great job from a leadership standpoint. I think his play on the field is indicative of his caliber of talent that he is.” Niblack plans on majoring in sports medicine. He will be an early enrollee.

We landed on Benjamin Watson as the comparison for Amari Niblack due to the similar body types and ability after the catch. It’s unlikely Niblack will end up with Watson’s top-end speed. Watson was a sprinter in high school and ran a 4.50 40-yard dash at 258 pounds at the NFL Combine. Still, we see some similarities in Niblack’s ability to run routes like a receiver at 6-foot-3.5, 220 pounds. The Alabama signee is a threat in the route, catch and after catch phases. He’s shown dominant ball-winning skills in contested situations and has the play speed to pull away in the open field.

Amari Niblack has shown the ability to win in a multitude of ways while split out as a receiver for St. Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder has an advanced burst and ability to change directions within his route – a key skill for a tight end prospect. The physical ability and coordination to develop into a strong route-runner are there. Niblack has also shown the ability to win at the catch point as a senior. He’s made a number of extended grabs in traffic. We’ve also seen Niblack turn into a tough runner after the catch. He runs like a receiver with the ball in his hands and has the contact balance and physicality to bounce off defenders. This type of well-rounded skill set gives Niblack a number of ways to affect the game as a receiving option and points to a high skill set. We’ve seen Alabama succeed with this type of pass catcher at tight end before with Irv Smith (Minnesota Vikings).
