Damon Wilson was already a well-known name in the Sunshine State, but he became a household name on the national scene with an unforgettable performance for Venice High in the 2021 Florida Class 8A championship game. Wilson had a monster pick-six in the 35-7 victory over Apopka. He was also in on eight tackles, had a half of a sack to tie the school record in a season with 14.5 and recorded two tackles for a loss to go along with his interception for a touchdown, pass breakup and quarterback hit, the latter three occurring on the same play. When he’s not making plays on the football field, Wilson is likely in the weight room or competing for the school’s powerlifting team. Wilson has a 370-pound bench press and he has hopes of topping the 400-pound mark by the time he graduates.

Damon Wilson reminds us of Robert Quinn due to his first-step quickness, play strength, length and ability to bend the corner at the edge. Both excel as pure edge rushers and use their athleticism and curvilinear movement skills to beat offensive tackles in pass rush situations. Quinn was a state champion wrestler. Wilson is exceptionally strong in the weight room.

Has plus length for the position with arms that measure over 34 inches. Tests as a good athlete in the combine setting but plays quicker than his times indicate. Explosive and twitchy leaper. Shows the ability to bend and dip around the edge, in addition to the outstanding first step. Has high-level curvilinear movement skills with the ability to get low and turn corners at high speeds. Advanced technically and flashes quick hands. Plays with good effort. A dogged worker who has spent time training. Plays for a top high school program in Florida, helping his team to a state title as a junior. Had a big junior season, tallying 15 sacks. Was not as productive as a senior. Strong in the weight room, but will need to continue adding play strength to aid as a run defender. Can also improve his closing speed to aid in finishing plays behind the line at a higher rate. Looks like one of the better pure pass rushers in the 2023 cycle.
