Personal Life

Dan Lanning has worked with many elite quarterbacks in his coaching career. But he says he's never been around anybody like Dillon Gabriel. “I think Dillon just has great self-awareness, and he has this passion to be great,” Lanning said. “I’ve talked a lot about his leadership at Big Ten Meetings, and I think that maybe that doesn’t give enough credit to the player he is. He has an opportunity to really break some doors open here with starts, with the amount of yards that he’s thrown for. But I also know that’s not what motivates him… What he does on the field is really impressive." Entering the 2024 season, Gabriel has 14,865 career passing yards and 125 touchdowns under his belt between his time at UCF and Oklahoma. "What's impressed me the most about Dillon is his ability to connect, not just in our program but outside of our program,” Lanning said. "Whether taking an offensive retreat and taking our players to different parts of Oregon to throw the ball around in fellowship, or having the managers over to his house to watch a fight or a meal. He's really done a great job of connecting quickly."
