Personal Life

EJ Smith is the son of former NFL star and Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith. EJ Smith was an On3 Consensus four-star recruit coming out of Dallas Jesuit High School in the 2020 recruiting class. He rushed for 133 yards and caught 18 passes in his first two seasons at Stanford. Smith was poised for a breakout 2022 season but suffered a season-ending injury in late September. In the two games he played in 2022, Smith totaled 206 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 30 carries. “I think he’s a special young man, a special football player and was just really coming into his own,” former Stanford coach David Shaw said at the time of the injury. “The future’s bright. This is something that needs to be taken care of now and I still expect him to be the special football player that we envision, that he envisions, sooner or later. It’s just not going to happen this year.”
