2025 TE Bear Tenney decommits from Nebraska

Lehi (Utah) Lone Peak three-star tight end Bear Tenney has decommitted from Nebraska, he announced on Tuesday evening.

He was pledged to the Huskers since April 25, but has now opened things back up with just eight days to go until National Signing Day.

“After much thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have decided to reopen my recruitment and decommit from the University of Nebraska,” Tenney wrote, announcing his decision on X. “This decision was not easy, and it comes with the utmost respect for Nebraska’s program, staff, team, and everything they represent.”

Tenney was the lone tight end on Matt Rhule’s 2025 pledge list. Nebraska now has 19 commits in its 2025 recruiting class, which is pushing for top-20 status in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Of the 19 commits in the class, seven are blue-chippers, including four-star EDGE Dawson Merritt, who flipped to Nebraska from Alabama earlier this month.

Tenney has a slew of other reported offers, including from the likes of Michigan, Utah, Oregon and USC. He’s now the second highest-ranked uncommitted recruit at the tight end position.

While Tenney is no longer in the class, there is a big-time TE target on Nebraska’s radar down the stretch.

Omaha (Neb.) Millard South four-star TE Chase Loftin is right down the road from Lincoln, but has been committed to Florida State since June 29. The Huskers do currently have the edge in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for the in-state standout, however.

Prospects in FSU’s class continue to head elsewhere, and Rhule and Co. are hoping to keep Loftin from leaving his home state. He is the No. 23 TE and No. 2 player in Nebraska this cycle.

“Chase Loftin, from Millard South here locally, he visited Nebraska, I know he’s looking at some other things, but Nebraska remains in contention there,” Nebraska insider Sean Callahan said on ‘The Inside Scoop’ last week. “They’ll probably have coaches at his state championship game here this next week, as Matt Rhule has not been to watch him play yet.”
