Queen Creek (Ariz.) three-star defensive back Mason Lewis has decommitted from Cal, he announced on Thursday.

He had been committed to the Golden Bears since July 1, when he chose them over offers Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa, Kansas State and a handful of other programs.

“After a lot of prayer, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of California, Berkeley,” he posted on Thursday. “I want to thank everyone at Cal for believing in me throughout this process. I believe it’s best for me to re-evaluate my options to ensure I’m making the right choice for my future.”

The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder is the No. 711 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 66 cornerback and No. 12 recruit in the state of Arizona.

In May, Lewis was one of the top performers at Under Armour’s camp in Los Angeles, and Rivals National Scout Cody Bellaire had this to say about him:

“The defensive back group put together quite a solid showing Sunday afternoon but none had a more dominant performance than Mason Lewis. With a high quality build and strong movement skills displayed during the drill work period, Lewis carried over that work into the competitive period was blanketing receivers at will. Lewis ended up intercepting at least two passes on the afternoon and breaking up an additional four. He was living in the hip pocket of receivers and showed tremendous mirror ability and the ability to attack the football.”

As a junior for Basha, Lewis starred all over the field with 33 tackles and 7 pass breakups. On offense, he tallied 238 rushing yards to go along with 20 catches, 435 yards and five receiving touchdowns.
