Yakima (Wash.) Sumner three-star linebacker Lance McGee has decommitted from Oregon State, he tells Rivals.

Pledged to the Beavers since June 6, he’s now the first recruiting domino to fall following the firing of OSU head coach Trent Bray on Sunday morning.

McGee is the No. 786 overall prospect and No. 64 linebacker in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 7 player in Washington.

Oregon State dropped to 0-7 this season following a 39-14 defeat at home to Wake Forest on Saturday. The Beavers have struggled to build momentum on the trail this cycle and entered Sunday with just nine commits in their 2026 class.

On Oct. 7, Oregon State lost a commitment from Clovis (Calif.) three-star quarterback Deagan Rose, the No. 35 QB in the 2026 cycle. He’s since committed to Fresno State. Last month, Fresno (Calif.) Buchanan three-star cornerback Donovan Dunmore flipped his pledge from OSU to Wisconsin.

The likes of Boise State, San Diego State and Washington State were also in the mix for McGee this summer. The remainder of Oregon State’s 2026 class can be seen here.

Oregon State fires Trent Bray

Bray went 5-14 in a season-plus with the team. He took over for former head coach Jonathan Smith, who departed the program for Michigan State ahead of the 2024 season.

Following Oregon State’s loss to Wake Forest Saturday, Bray had to address the downtrodden program. He was asked if anyone quit on the staff.

“I don’t think so,” Bray said, via Oregon Live. “Just by going through the week. I’ve got to watch the film to have a better evaluation of what that looked like. It didn’t feel like it on the field, but I’ve got to evaluate that … I’m frustrated. I’m disappointed. I look at myself, and I’ve got to fix it. It’s unacceptable to me where we’re at. That’s just how I look at it. What can I do? I’ve got to look at it. What can I do different to get these guys going?”

Bray was later asked about his job security. He said he didn’t give it a thought at the time and could only control what he could control.

“I really don’t think about that,” Bray said. “Those are out of my control, decisions that people make. I’m just going to show up until they tell me I can’t.”
