San Diego Cathedral Catholic three-star quarterback Brady Palmer has decommitted from Cal, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.

Pledged to the in-state Golden Bears since June 6, the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder is now back on the board with National Signing Day less than two weeks out.

Palmer is the No. 67 QB and No. 96 recruit in California in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He checks in as the No. 1,196 prospect overall.

Justin Wilcox and the staff in Berkeley were set to bring in a pair of QBs this cycle, but Palmer is now looking elsewhere. Cal still holds a pledge from rising Honolulu (Hi.) St. Louis three-star Nainoa Lopes, now the No. 43 QB nationally.

Before committing to Cal, Palmer was trending to Kansas State in the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Wildcats showed some serious interest this summer. Other previous offers on the table for Palmer included TCU, Minnesota, Michigan State, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Washington.

Looking at Cal’s 2026 class

With Palmer no longer in the fold, Cal now has 20 commits in its 2026 class that ranks No. 40 nationally, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. That’s good for the No. 8 spot in the ACC, checking in ahead of Pitt, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Duke and others.

The class now features a pair of blue-chippers, one of which is a new addition to the pledge list. Norman North (Okla.) four-star offensive tackle Daniel McMorris backed off a commitment to Minnesota, weighed his options and chose Cal over Oklahoma and Texas Tech on Halloween. He’s now the No. 29 OT in the nation.

“I believe they are program is growing in the right direction and they’ve shown a lot of value in me from the start,” McMorris told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman about the Bears. “I connected really well with the OL coach, he made me feel like family like we’ve known each other for years. I can see him making me into a draft pick, which is the ultimate goal.”

McMorris is flanked at the top by Honolulu (Hi.) Kamehameha four-star tight end Taimane Purcell, the No. 18 TE in the cycle. He was one of a whopping 13 commits for Wilcox and Co. in June.
