4-star DB Bryce Williams decommits from Florida State
Western (Fla.) four-star cornerback Bryce Williams has decommitted from Florida State, he told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Tuesday.
Williams had been pledged to the Seminoles since April, when he chose them over Miami, UCF, Colorado, Nebraska and a host of other programs. A big part of that decision was his connection to the coaching staff.
“I have a lot of family ties to Florida State,” he told Rivals’ Marcus Benjamin this summer. “I feel comfortable there. Pat Surtain coached my older brother [Reginald Williams] at Heritage. Tony White coached my older cousin at Syracuse. The director of recruiting, Devin Rispress, that’s my uncle. [Assistant defensive backs] Coach Greg Moss, his nephew, played running back here at Western High School last year.”
But with the shakeup on FSU’s staff after a dismal 2025 season, he has opted to reopen his recruitment. Surtain was dismissed by head coach Mike Norvell, while Rispress and White remain on staff.
But even before the shakeup, Williams was still considering and visiting other schools. Clemson, Florida, Miami, and Nebraska were among those still in contact.

Nebraska hosted him this fall, and continues to make a strong impression on him.
“The fanbase out there was different,” he told InsideNebraska. “They really care about their logo. It’s like a family.”
Now they’ll be battling to land him on the second go-around, along with plenty of other programs.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is the No. 218 overall prospect and No. 23 CB in the 2027 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
Rivals, however, is a bit higher on him than both 247 and ESPN. In the most recent Rivals300 rankings, he was tabbed as the nation’s No. 178 recruit and No. 16 cornerback.
