4-star EDGE Andrew Rogers commits to Virginia Tech

Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley standout EDGE Andrew Rogers has made his decision — and he’s headed for the ACC. The four-star reclassified to the 2026 class earlier this summer and he has committed to Virginia Tech.
With over two dozen offers, the decision didn’t come lightly. But after a pair of visits to Blacksburg in June, the talented pass rusher felt the fit — both on and off the field — was exactly what he was looking for.
“It just felt right,” Rogers told Rivals. “I’ve been to Virginia Tech multiple times — and each time, it was the same energy, the same focus. It’s all about the team, and I really liked that.”
The Hokies offered the No. 17 EDGE in the country on April 22, and the relationship took off quickly from there. One of the things that stood out most was the culture and connectivity within the team.
“They do things like camping trips and mixing up position groups, making sure everyone gets to know each other,” he said. “The environment felt like something I wanted to be a part of.”
Rogers details why the Hokies won out
The second visit this summer sealed the deal. While the coaching staff made a strong impression from the start, it was head coach Brent Pry’s personal approach that pushed Hokies over the top.
“Coach Pry interacts with the players differently,” he said. “He’s the head coach, but he’s also just a regular coach — relatable, down-to-earth. He’s eating with the guys, hanging in the weight room, just being present. Whether it’s a player or a student on campus, he’s the same with everyone. He’s real.”
The Hokies’ defensive system was another key factor. One of the best in North Carolina loved the way he’d be used in coordinator Sam Siefkes defense, with opportunities to move around and make plays.
“I like all the coaches, and I like the system. They put you in a position to make plays. The players are extremely focused too — the ‘lunch pail’ mentality runs through the whole program. It fits who I am.”

He also felt an instant connection with the team — and noted that one player from his circle, Shamarius “Snook” Peterson from Mount Tabor, added to the family feel.
But no relationship was stronger than the one he built with defensive line coach J.C. Price.
“Coach JC is a great guy,” Rogers added. “We talk every day. He FaceTimes me, checks in on my mom and my family. It’s not just about football — it’s about family. That’s what really stood out most about him.”
Tennessee and others are still in pursuit
Tennessee made a strong push and was firmly in the mix late. They are not going away, but the decision had been building for a while — and Virginia Tech never let off the gas.
“I’ve been strong on this for over a month,” he said. “They stayed with me, stayed consistent, and that meant a lot. It never slowed down.
“I will still take an official visit to Tennessee in November after I take my official visit to Virginia Tech in October. Tennessee is a great school and I am still listening to them, but I feel good about my decision.”
“Auburn, Florida State, LSU and Michigan State were in his top five. “Miami, Sacramento State, South Carolina and others are still communicating with Rogers.
