Flower Mound (Texas) four-star offensive lineman Drew Evers is down to six schools in his recruitment, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Monday.

Among the remaining contenders are SMU, Texas A&M, Penn State, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

“I am in the process of slowing things down and narrowing some things down,” Evers told On3’s Chad Simmons this spring. “I am trying to find the right fit. Education, good football, the staff — all those things play into my decision and what I am looking for in a school.”

Evers already took an official visit earlier this month with the in-state Mustangs, and he has trips to Ohio State (June 6), Penn State (June 13) and Texas A&M (June 20) on the calendar as well.

SMU made a strong impression on his first trip, one that other schools will have to overcome to win over his commitment.

“This visit was basically just about reassuring what I already knew,” Evers told On3’s Billy Embody. “I’ve been around Coach Foster, Coach Justice, Coach Lashlee for a long, long time, you know? I’ve had a great relationship with them, and basically all this visit was just spending time with them, growing that relationship. I know where I stand with them, I know it’s great. I was watching film with Coach Reggie (Bain) just a couple seconds ago, and Coach (D’Eriq) King.”

Official visits will be paramount in the decision process

The visits — and what he sees from each program — will be key factors as he eventually works toward a decision.

“Visits will be massive for my recruitment and decision,” he told Simmons. “That general feeling is so important and you have to be there to get there. Talking to coaches, being around players and things like that will be massive for me.”

Going into the rest of his official visits, there’s a lot of buzz around Ohio State despite Evers being a Texas A&M legacy. Even the coaching change along the offensive line hasn’t dissuaded him.

“I was being recruited by the old offensive line coach, Justin Frye and I really liked Ohio State but I didn’t go to Ohio State just because of coach Frye,” Evers told Lettermen Row. “I went there because I love the building. And I love the people who are in the building. I love where it is, the education and everything like that is.”

The 6-foot-3, 285-pounder is the No. 110 overall prospect and No. 7 interior offensive linemen in the On300 rankings.
