MIAMI, Fla. — Finding the right fit is the name of the game in recruiting, and South Florida quarterback Zac Katz is undoubtedly making a name for himself at True North Academy.

On Thursday night, the 2027 three-star-rated QB led the Titans to a dominant 62-38 win over Saint Andrews to advance to the 1A FHSAA regional championship.

“As you can see, it’s elite,” Katz said of the talent on his team after the win. “We’ve worked so hard, and everything is falling into place. I’m so excited.”

Katz made his commitment to FIU in September, and the Golden Panthers also landed commitments from True North 2026 wide receiver Malik Penson and defensive back Dominic Turnbull. Katz is excited to join to have two talented teammates with him at his future college.

“It’s exciting for sure, knowing they are going to be there with me. Hopefully, we can get a couple more. I’m working on some.”

Katz is a full believer in what the FIU head coach Willie Simmons is building in Miami, and his relationship with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Nick Coleman continues to flourish.

“It’s been amazing. Coach Coleman keeps contacting me. I’m sure I’m going to see a big text from him when I check my phone. Coach Coleman and Coach Simmons are doing something great at FIU. Happy to be a part of it.”

Last Saturday, FIU became bowl-eligible with its 27-21 win over Jacksonville State.

“FIU is doing really well right now. I’m so excited for the program. They’ve been dominating these past couple of weeks. Having Pesansky, they’ve looked really good, so I’m so excited to see how it goes for the rest of the season.”

Katz has completed 68 percent of his passes for 2,167 yards, throwing for 25 touchdowns and three interceptions. The junior quarterback has already surpassed 10,000 yards for his career.

The former Chaminade-Madonna quarterback will face his old team in his next playoff game this Friday and certainly has much to prove.

“It’s going to take me. I think I have to bring the dog out of everyone. I think I’ll do a great job with that. They don’t want it as bad as me. You know how it is for me. It’s personal for me.”
