Mayfield on his commitment to Oklahoma
Gage Mayfield went in-depth on his decision to choose Oklahoma with Rivals.
“They were 100% consistent and honest with me the entire recruitment process. Ever since I got that first phone call and from the jump (Brock Morris) instantly kept it real with me. With just what I needed to work on before he even spoke on my cons, that let me know right there that they will coach me to be better and love me 100% throughout the process. I’m a tough love kind of guy.”
What led to his trust in the coaching staff?
“The coaches and staff just showed me a lot of love, coming to my town to spend time with me and making my family feel comfortable with me leaving far away from home.”
In his own words, what type of player is OU getting in Mayfield?
“A very simple but affective game, there’s nothing I can’t do on the court.”
He has a message for Sooners fans.
“Time for another Mayfield to take over Oklahoma, just in a different sport”
More on Mayfield
Rivals’ Jamie Shaw evaluated Mayfield this summer and had this to say about him:
The piece of Mayfield’s game that sticks out regularly is his defensive presence. At a length 6-foot-8, he has intriguing instincts to go along with athletic pop. He slides his feet, gets in the passing lanes, and is an effective weak side shot blocker as he rotates down a lineup. His offensive game showed promise in the matchup against Washington. Mayfield knocked down a three and attacked the basket off ball reversals in a straight line. He needs to continue to refine the offensive game, but he is consistently finding production on the floor.
