Houston is piecing together a star-studded 2026 recruiting class featuring multiple blue-chippers from around the state of Texas, especially in and around campus.

Willie Fritz and co. just added another to the haul.

Speedy four-star Rosharon (Texas) Iowa Colony WR Jayden Warren committed to the Cougars — choosing to play for the hometown team over TCU and SMU, which finished second and third, respectively, for the touted pass-catcher.

Houston offered Warren 13 months ago — and has continued to lean on the strongest connections he’s built to date with the Cougars’ staff.

“Houston has been consistent from June 2024 when they first offered me,” Warren said of his connections to Fritz and Derrick Sherman. “Being that I’m from Houston, they still made my official visit feel like it was home away from home. For me, it feels like home because it is home. Those Houston connections are strong because of their belief in me. What I could possibly bring to the program was established Day 1.

“Coach Fritz is focused on turning that program into a winning program and with that comes getting big-time playmakers to stay home and do just that. They have extended open lines of communication to my family, answering any and all questions and concerns for me and my parents — and that’s a big deal.”

Rivals’ No. 16-rated WR joins the likes of five-star QB Keisean Henderson in Houston’s 2026 class, which leaped into the top-60 with the commitment of Warren.

The Cougars are stockpiling talent and catching steam this summer with several more targets — more from Steve Wiltfong here on that. That theme has continued by the addition of Warren.

“Keisean will make a big impact and Houston believing in him was the game changer,” he started. “With any program, you want coaches to believe in you as a player and then develop the craft that you bring to the program. Houston is providing that for their players.

“I have always kinda set my own path and I’ve been the trendsetter,” Warren continued. “I want to keep doing that — on the collegiate level as well as the next level in the NFL if given the opportunity. Houston sees my vision and will help me reach that goal.”

Fritz, Sherman and the entire Houston staff claimed roles in landing the in-state blue-chipper away from TCU.

Warren has top-end speed — evidenced by a 10.16 mark in the 100 Meters and a 21.27 in the 200 Meters this spring. As a junior, he hauled in 26 receptions for 613 yards and 14 touchdowns on 23.6 yards per catch.

The Cougars believe they can maximize Warren’s speed on Saturdays.

“I wanted a program that made feel the most comfortable and where development was a priority. I had that gut feeling and nothing was able to shake it. That’s how you know that’s where you belong,” he said. “At Houston, they wanted to embrace who I am — not change who I am. They will make me better.”
