Five-star EDGE Marvin Jones Jr. of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage will not be taking an official visit anywhere this weekend, according to a report from On3 National Analyst Gerry Hamilton.

Hamilton talked with American Heritage coach Pat Surtain around 11:40 a.m. ET on Thursday. Surtain, who said he was sitting next to Jones, told Hamilton that neither Texas or Texas A&M would be hosting Jones on an official visit this weekend.

“He’s only got the Georgia visit scheduled next week,” Surtain told Hamilton.

There had been reports over the past few days that had linked both the Aggies and Longhorns as possible official visit destinations this weekend for Marvin Jones Jr.

Marvin Jones Jr. is ranked as the No. 32 player, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks Jones as the nation’s top player and best defensive recruit in Florida and at the EDGE position.

One of the biggest names impacted by coaching changes is four-star EDGE Marvin Jones Jr.

social media post from Jones’ mother, Alexsandra Jones, appears to indicate the Sooners no longer are a factor in her son’s recruitment. In a reply to a tweet about Oklahoma losing commitments from Los Alamitos (Calif.) High Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Malachi Nelson, American Heritage four-star wide receiver Brandon Inniss and Jacksonville Trinity Christian Academy four-star running back Treyaun Webb, Jones responded with “And #marvinjonesjr.”

While Marvin Jones Jr. never went public with a commitment to the Sooners, intel indicated Oklahoma was very much a factor. Jones told On3’s Chad Simmons recently the Sooners were in a good spot in his recruitment, along with Alabama, Florida State and Georgia.

Jones is scheduled to visit Georgia officially on the weekend of Dec. 10. He was talking about wrapping things up shortly after that. It’ll be interesting to see what the news in Norman does to his timetable over the next 15 days.

Jones’ father, Marvin Jones Sr., was a star linebacker for Florida State in the 1990s. His mother, Alex Jones, ran track at Miami and his brother, Daryl, is a cornerback at West Virginia. Even his uncle, Fred Jones, played linebacker at Florida State from 1983-1986.
