SMU flips 2026 OT Max Wright away from the Longhorns
Rhett Lashlee has brought the spatula out again with National Signing Day around the corner.
SMU flipped Class of 2026 OT Max Wright away from the Longhorns just days before he puts pen to paper.
The flip comes just days removed from the touted offensive line prospect from Melissa (Texas) High logging his second visit back to the Hilltop this month. That includes an official visit over the weekend.
The Texas verbal by way of the Dallas Metroplex was on campus earlier this month for the Mustangs’ signature victory over Miami. SMU hasn’t let up working to flip Wright’s pledge ahead of National Signing Day.
“They’re doing a lot,” Wright has said of SMU. “They contact me almost every day and it’s been a consistent push for a few months.”
“It went well,” he added after returning to campus for an official visit on the weekend of the win over Louisville. “SMU has always stayed in contact with me and and they reach out often. It feels like home for me because it’s 20 minutes from my house.”

The local 6-foot-8, 300-pounder has been a top priority for Lashlee and Garin Justice, who have dialed up the pressure on Wright in recent weeks leading into Signing Day.
So has the rest of SMU’s OL class, including lead recruiters Evan Goodwin, Drew Evers and Pupungatoa Katoa.
“I came in Saturday morning and had a meeting with the business school and then the strength and conditioning staff, and got some questions answered,” Wright said. “Then watched the game against Louisville — and the score speaks for itself. I hung out with some of the other commits and had a good time. Then had a meeting with the Lift After Ball program, which went really great and got more insight into the support at SMU, then had dinner and stayed the night in a hotel, and then had the photo shoot and meeting with Coach Justice and (Rhett) Lashlee, where we talked ball and my general knowledge of my position.”
“The highlight was talking to the other commits and getting to go around more on campus,” he continued.
