WR Lavar Keys commits to Indiana: 'Coach Cignetti's brought juice to the program'

After taking a close look at hometown Maryland and giving Kansas State real consideration, Landover (Md.) DeMatha Catholic wide receiver Lavar Keys found the right fit in the Big Ten — at Indiana.
The three-star prospect, ranked as the No. 11 player in Maryland, announced his commitment to Curt Cignetti’s program.
“Indiana is the best fit,” Keys told Rivals. “I love the culture, love how they are winning, and Bloomington is a great place. The fans bring so much intensity.”
The transformation under Coach Cignetti has sparked in Bloomington and the excitement surrounding the program excites Keys.
“Coach Cignetti has turned things around and made them a new Indiana. He is a great with energy. Coach Cignetti has brought juice to the program.
“His demeanor is different than everyone else’s. He’s chill, praises his guys, and he’s humble — but he’s a winner.. Things are really exciting at Indiana.”
Keys also praised Bloomington’s environment and the passion of the fanbase.
“It’s a fun place to be,” he said. “The fans love the team, it’s electric, and it feels like home. The atmosphere is great and I love the support.”

Keys also highlighted his relationship with offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan, calling him a key part of his decision.
“I love Coach Shanahan — he knows how to call plays,” Keys said. “He’s a great coach. He offered me back in the spring and always kept in touch.”
Even after Keys’ commitment to Penn State earlier in the year, Indiana never let up in its pursuit — something that made a strong impression.
“They never stopped recruiting me,” he said. “That meant a lot. It showed they always wanted me. Coach Shanahan let me know he wanted me and that is where I want to be.”
Keys plans to sign in December and enroll early in Bloomington next spring.
