ASU will meet Duke in this year's Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl
The Sun Devils’ postseason destination has been revealed: Arizona State (8-4) will face ACC champion Duke (8-5) in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, played in El Paso, Texas. The game will kick off on December 31 at noon and will air on CBS. The Blue Devils are the current ACC Champions, following a dramatic 27-20 win over Virginia on Saturday night, and thus, this will mark the first time the Sun Bowl has hosted a conference champion.
This postseason game is one that is hardly a stranger for ASU, as this month’s game will mark the eighth time that they have played in the Sun Bowl, which marks the most played bowl game in program history.
They hold a record of 4-2-1, with three of their wins taking place this century. Their last appearance was in 2021, when they beat Florida State. The Sun Devils did meet the Blue Devils in this postseason contest in 2014, which also culminated in an ASU victory, 36-31, a game in which Arizona State running back Demario Richard set a Sun Bowl record with four touchdowns. Their last victory this century was in 2004 over Purdue, and their first-ever win in the Sun Bowl was over Iowa in 1997. ASU’s last loss in this postseason matchup was in 2017 against NC State, in what was then-head coach Todd Graham’s last game at the program’s helm.
