Caufield 2024 Recap
After breaking into the tight end rotation in 2023 as a redshirt freshman and playing in 13 games with three catches for 43 yards, Caufield took a big step forward in 2024. He played in all 12 games, with four starts, and saw a career-high 352 snaps, crushing his ’23 high of 39.
Playing alongside Jermaine Terry, Caufield was a sizable piece of the Beavers’ tight end efforts, not only as a receiver, but as a blocker as well. He scored his first career score against San Diego State and entered the offseason on the cusp of having an even bigger season in 2025.
Caufield 2025 Outlook
Entering the 2025 campaign, Caufield will have more competition at tight end as the Beavers welcomed in a pair of transfers in Miami’s Riley Williams and BYU’s Jackson Bowers, along with Cooper Jensen and Gabe Milbourn. But, if spring football was any indication, he’s ready to build upon last season as Caufield looks to have taken a step forward.
While Williams and Bowers each had their moments in spring, I was particularly impressed with Caufield, who routinely was in the right place at the right time. Whether it was making catches, blocking, or being the vet in the room, he was the leader. He’s got more to offer as a receiver, and with Maalik Murphy under center, the passing game is going to be more explosive, and he’ll stand to benefit greatly.
