Minnesota WR Malachi Coleman expected to enter transfer portal
Minnesota wide receiver Malachi Coleman is no longer with the Minnesota Golden Gophers football program and is expected to enter the transfer portal.
The move comes as little surprise, as Gophers Nation previously reported the expectation of Coleman entering the transfer portal earlier this month, on December 2.
As of Monday morning, Coleman is no longer listed on the Minnesota online roster after spending less than a year with the program after transferring away from the Nebraska Cornhuskers last offseason.
In his lone season with the Golden Gophers, Coelman recorded five receptions for 83 yards in eight games. Coleman, in those eight games, played 174 snaps, 15th most of any Gopher on offense and the fourth most of any Minnesota wide receiver.
For his career, Coleman in 20 career games has 13 receptions for 222 yards and one touchdown.
The Lincoln, Nebraska, native was a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle and considered a top-70 prospect by the Rivals Industry Rankings, including the No. 10 wide receiver nationally and No. 1 player in the state of Nebraska.
Minnesota is returning limited production at wide receiver in 2025
This season, seven receivers recorded receptions for Minnesota in Le’Meke Brockington, Javon Tracy, Jalen Smith, Logan Loya, Malachi Coleman, Koi Perich, and Kenric Lanier.
Of those seven receivers, three will be returning for the 2026 season as of Monday morning in Javon Tracy (35 receptions, 149 yards, six TD), Jalen Smith (22 receptions, 255 yards, two TD), and Koi Perich (three receptions, 55 yards). Notably, Perich, after appearing in the program’s first three games at wide receiver, appeared in just two games the remainder of the season at the position.
