Georgia Tech picked up a huge commitment on Monday evening when 3-star safety Kealan Jones made the flip from the rival Georgia Bulldogs to the Yellow Jackets a couple days before early signing day after several months of the GT coaching staff pushing hard to get him in the 2026 class.

On Tuesday, JOL caught up with Jones’ head coach at Sprayberry High in Marietta, Georgia, Pete Fominaya, to discuss his standout safety’s commitment, what kind of player Georgia Tech fans should expect, how his skills translate to the college level and more.

Here’s what he had to say:

How excited are you for Kealon to make his commitment to Georgia Tech so he knows his future plans and can have all the stress of the recruiting process off him now?

FOMINAYA: “I am very happy for Kealan and his family. The recruiting process is very difficult on our student-athletes, and I’m happy that he has found a great place for him.”

What do you think about how Tech recruited Kealan or what makes Tech the right fit for him?

FOMINAYA: “The Georgia Tech staff was consistent with Kealan throughout the entire process. They have expressed how important he is to them, and I think he will be a great fit for their program.”

What should Georgia Tech fans expect from Kealan as a player, a competitor and a person for those that might not have seen him play or know about him yet?

FOMINAYA: “Kealan is an elite human being. He is detailed, hardworking and a great leader. Everyday he comes to work with a team-first mentality. He is a physical defender and is ready to contribute right away.”

What do you feel about Kealan’s skillset and mindset translates well to the college level and do you see him being an impact player early on at Georgia Tech once he gets there?

FOMINAYA: “Kealan is very mature and will be able to adapt to the college game quickly. He is constantly challenging himself and others around him to be their best. I know Kealan will make Georgia Tech proud.”
