The Early Signing Period has arrived for Missouri and the Class of 2026.

The Tigers entered the week with 22 commitments before losing four-star running back TJ Hodges to Arkansas on Monday. Under head coach Eli Drinkwitz, dating back to the 2020 class, Missouri has never signed more than 22 high school recruits in one cycle.

Balogoun-Ali signs with Auburn

While choosing Auburn over Kentucky and Missouri, Adam Balogoun-Ali‘s name popped up for Missouri multiple times in the past few months, including recent days. Nicholson already had two linebackers committed, but retaining defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin helped Auburn keep Balogoun-Ali in the fold.

A longtime target for linebackers coach Derek Nicholson, dating back to the staffer’s days at Miami in January 2024, JJ Bush made a surprise commitment to Missouri in October. The former Arkansas pledge backed off after the dismissal of defensive coordinator Travis Williams, and the Tigers never let up.

Missouri signee Jaxson Gates grew mentally and physically in his transfer to La Verne (Calif.) Damien ahead of his junior season.

“I also don’t know that he was really given an opportunity,” coach James Stewart said. “If you feel like you’re hitting your head against the wall and you’re not really getting a shot, you somewhat become disengaged. … The change of scenery was exactly what he needed, and getting him was exactly what we needed at that time. It was a perfect match for us.”

A former Syracuse and BYU commit, Jaxson Gates flipped from the Cougars to the Tigers in late October. USC jumped on the radar this past week, but the Rivals Industry four-star reaffirmed his pledge to Missouri.

As expected, Missouri lost Nickerson to Mississippi State on National Signing Day. The four-star previously flipped from the Bulldogs to the Tigers in September. While having ties to Missouri, the Rivals300 edge will stay in the Magnolia State.

While a flip target for Missouri, three-star Mason James inked with Washington on Wednesday. The Norman (Okla.) North wide receiver, who officially visited the Tigers this past summer, received an invite to the Mayor’s Cup in September, but he didn’t make the trip.

The Tigers weren’t expecting Forney to change his mind and choose the Panthers, a source said Wednesday. Forney’s high school coaches never mentioned the possibility this past week either, but Forney didn’t answer a message from MizzouToday this past week regarding a comment on Drinkwitz’s contract extension.

The staff also hasn’t felt strong about landing four-star edge Micah Nickerson, who has received flip projections to Mississippi State.

While right across the border at Edwardsville (Ill.) High, Devyon Hill-Lomax has towered over opponents most of high school. The 6-foot-5 wideout committed to Missouri after his official visit in late June, but with a basketball season on tap, the three-star will enroll in the summer.

Jackson (Mo.) interior offensive line prospect Brysen Wessell flipped his commitment from Iowa State in October after being a summer riser for Missouri. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound three-star camped with the Tigers before later visiting for the Mayor’s Cup. Wessell will follow in the footsteps of fellow Jackson product Connor Tollison.
